As part of his preparation, Adarsh spent time with underground artists from Govandi, Nalasopara, Kurla, Dharavi and Andheri. He observed their daily lives, jammed with them and spoke to them about their journeys.
“Very early on, I realised that Maruti couldn’t be built in isolation,” Adarsh said. “His voice, his body language, even his silences come from the place he grew up in.” He added that being present in those spaces helped him understand the emotional weight behind the music.
According to the actor, what stayed with him most was how deeply and personal the music felt. The conversations often went beyond beats and lyrics.

“We spoke about ambition, about being unheard, and about using music as a way to claim space,” he shared, adding that those interactions shaped his performance more than any written note could.
Reflecting on the experience, Adarsh said spending time with the underground rap community helped him understand the raw honesty that fuels their art.
“Their music isn’t performative, it’s lived,” he said. “I wanted Maruti to feel like someone who belongs to that world, not someone pretending to. That truth was important to me while playing him.”
Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, Tu Yaa Main is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under Colour Yellow, along with Vinod Bhanushali and Kamlesh Bhanushali of Bhanushali Studios Limited.
Rooted in today’s creator-driven culture, the film offers a youthful take on love and survival and is set to release on February 13, 2026.
Adarsh Gourav began his career as a child actor and appeared in films like My Name Is Khan. He later gained recognition for his work in Made in Heaven and achieved global acclaim with The White Tiger, earning a Golden Globe nomination.
Known for his grounded performances, he has also featured in international projects such as Apple TV+’s Extrapolations.
